Site Philosophy
The ideas this site is based on are not as popular as they should be these days. ;P
I'm a firm believer in content over presentation. I'd rather listen to a great song on
an average radio or watch a movie I liked on a 14" TV than see bad material on the latest
home theater system. While I agree that the way in which something is delivered (great
stereo vs. bad stereo) can really help your enjoyment of it, you must first have good
content or you're wasting your time.
It's easy to find spiffy-looking websites these days which actually have next to nothing
there once you get past the presentation, such as smint.com.
As well as believing in content first, I'm also a 'power user'. I resent software wizards
that channel you into doing what they want you to do, and I especially hate the current
trend whereby software is becoming cuter and the interfaces are being designed for the
dizziest office secretary first, at the expense of the more advanced user.
So, for these two reasons,
..the Mouldy Old Productions site is completely hand-written in Notepad using back-to-basics,
out-of-date, bad HTML. I call it Mouldy Old Productions partly because of the old and cheap
style of page design, but the name also relates to the games I've produced:
Badly done, cheesy stuff makes me laugh. If the movie's right, I can laugh myself silly at
poor acting, bad special effects, out-dated fashions and cliches. I carry this into my
software - it's hard to produce great stuff with the limited time and tools available to me,
so I figure, make it a bit cheesy and it'll entertain instead because it's funny.
And how best to describe these ideas in a few short words?
Mouldy Old Productions.
