Klik & Play Bug Listing
Here are all the bugs I can remember.
- Animation Editor
If you display the action point when you are editing a frame
then close that frame and open another, it will say 'Hot spot'
next to the action point coordinates. This bug is harmless -
you are still editing the action point as long as the 'show
action point' box is ticked.
- Animation Editor
Sometimes, parts of an image you are editing will not be able
to be drawn over with the pencil tool. If you draw on them then
change to a different tool, the drawing will disappear from
the affected area. Annoying if you're trying to draw a gap-free
outline to fill.
Solution: use the line tool to draw in such areas.
- Low Memory Problems
If you try and make a Klik & Play game when you don't have
much free memory or free hard drive space, you're asking
for trouble.
If your game gets large ('large' is a relative term which
depends on how much free memory and hard disk space you have),
any of the following may eventually occur:
The event editor shows that a certain sound should be
played at a certain time, but either no sound is played
or a different sound from the game is played.
Alternatively, sounds may disappear from the listing
of sounds for the game, and they will not play wherever
they occur in events.
Solution: Free up hard drive space or memory, and go
back through the event editor and re-enter all affected
conditions.
- Write Error when saving
Hopefully this is because you have insufficient space
to save the file, and you can free up some space and
try again. You may have just had your latest changes
undone for you by Klik & Play, and you'll have to do
them again. If you try to open a game that had a
Write Error when saving, you'll find you have:
- Corrupted Game Files
You'll know this has happened to you if you get the
dreaded "Read Error" when you try to load your game.
This is why you should always make backups.
One of the files from your game is corrupt and cannot
be opened, and this is not a good thing. Especially
if you've spent ages working on it and you had no
recent backups. That's what happened to me while I was
nearly finished making the last level and boss for
Space
Wasters 3.
Solution: Hopefully your file is quite complete still,
and you can send the game to the guys at
clickteam and
they can try to salvage your work.
Event Editor
Say there's an object in your game which is involved in events
(events that play sounds and contain the condition 'only one
action when event loops'), and you delete the object from the
play area. If the object is not created during play (ie
it is now fully gone and removed from the objects list for
the level), most of its events in the event editor will
have been removed. Some often remain, though, and usually they
will have 'only one action when event loops' as their only
condition. For example: there's an explosion, and when it goes
off (animation BANG is playing + only one action when event
loops), it plays a sound and
subtracts from the player's life. If I delete that explosion,
then the condition 'only one action while event loops: play
sound, subtract 1 from number of lives' remains. When I run
the level, the first thing I hear is a mysterious bang and I
lose a life for no reason.
Solution: Click the speaker in the event editor to show
events involving sound, and go through them looking for events
that have 'only one action when event loops' as their only
condition. Delete them if they shouldn't be there any more.
Crashes when importing pictures
Some people never manage to import images into Klik & Play.
But if you have trouble, try changing the colours in the image,
changing the type (.bmp, .pcx), changing Klik & Play's colour
mode, opening the image in a different program and saving it,
copying it to the clipboard and pasting it into K&P etc.
